One way to demonstrate your spirituality is to go out in nature - even if it's to take a staged photo ;-)

Gay spirituality is about coming home to ourselves. It’s about embracing the sacredness of who we are as queer people and finding deeper meaning in our lives, love, and connections. For me, it’s not about following rigid traditions—it’s about creating a spiritual path that’s authentic, liberating, and affirming. Here are three ways I experience and understand gay spirituality:

  1. Authenticity Is Sacred

Living openly and authentically as a gay person is a spiritual practice in itself. When we embrace who we are—fully, unapologetically—we’re aligning with something divine. We’ve spent so much time navigating spaces that told us to shrink or hide. Gay spirituality flips that script. It says: You are whole. You are holy. Your truth is sacred.

2. Love That Breaks Boundaries

Queer love is powerful. Whether it’s the deep bond with a partner, chosen family, or the larger LGBTQ+ community, our love transcends old definitions and binaries. Gay spirituality honors that. It sees love as a healing, revolutionary force—one that brings us closer to each other, and to something greater. For me, love *is* the divine in action.

3. Transformation and Fluidity

As queer people, we understand change. We live in-between spaces, and we know how to transform—how to grow into more authentic versions of ourselves. That’s a mystical experience. Gay spirituality honors our fluidity and our ability to evolve, just like nature does. Whether through meditation, connecting with ancestors, or creative expression, we tap into something timeless and sacred.

For me, gay spirituality is about living with an open heart, embracing who we are, and recognizing the sacredness in our queer experience. It’s personal, it’s powerful, and it’s constantly unfolding.

We'll be exploring what it means to be proudly spiritual during our upcoming half-day immersive workshop, "Celebrating the Divine Within" on Saturday, April 5, 2025.
